Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team

Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) is an international team dedicated to humanitarian action and community development through open mapping. HOT's work is global in scale and contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. Their monitoring and evaluation framework is constantly evolving to ensure tangible and measurable impact.

An example of HOT's impact: the southern parts of Malawi along the Lower Shire River (that connects Lake Malawi and the Zambezi River) are frequently flooded, and that flooding affects the villages of farmers and pastoralists near the river. In 2014, HOT was involved in a community mapping and training project in Malawi along with the Department of Disaster Management Affairs. HOT mapped all the residential areas, as well as all buildings, and water and sanitation facilities.
