World Water Week 2024 event: 'When water investment undermines pastoralists’ resilience'

Permanent water supplies are thought to have a positive impact on climate resilience, but there are also concerns about potential negative impacts of water supply development in dryland areas, including increased settlement and subsequent overgrazing, poor water quality, inequitable access, and overlapping water management systems. 

At this session, SPARC researchers from the Centre for Humanitarian Change and the Center for Research and Development in Drylands engaged experts and policy makers to answer the question: "Is development of new, permanent water supplies in pastoralist areas in Horn of Africa part of the solution or part of the problem?"
