Index-based livestock insurance / Index-based crop insurance

PULA partners with local insurance companies and global reinsurance firms to insure farmers and livestock owners against a wide range of climatic risks including drought, excessive rainfall, pests and diseases. PULA’s Index Based Livestock Insurance covers pastoralists when pastoral rangelands for grazing are not sufficient, often due to drought or delayed rains.

Index Based Livestock Insurance covers the value of fodder required to keep livestock alive for the duration of the cover which is usually a season and can be up to a year long. Pula’s Index-Based Crop Insurance includes the Area Yield Index Insurance and the Hybrid Index Insurance. Yield Index Insurance covers all risks that affect yield and insures the value of the purchased inputs against low yield. Hybrid Index Insurance is a combination of Weather Index Insurance and Area Yield Index Insurance.
