Locally Formulated Dairy Goat Meal

The Locally Formulated Dairy Goat Meal was formulated by Joe Ouko, a small-scale farmer in Kenya, using locally available plant-based fodder materials, herbs and mineral salts. The raw material is chopped, shade-dried and grinded separately. The ingredients are then mixed in a given ratio to ensure all necessary nutrients are present.

This innovation was further developed through a process of farmer-led research with Prolinnova–Kenya partners and it is now being marketed under the name LOFODA G-Meal. The innovation has stimulated many others in Joe's community, mainly women, to take up dairy goat keeping, which has ignited a chain of innovation related to this activity.
